Intuitive Coaching: Tuning in for Deeper Impact

As coaches, we're trained in the art of active listening, powerful questioning, and holding space for our clients' transformations. But what if there's a whole other dimension to our toolkit – one that taps into subtle cues, unspoken energies, and intuitive whispers guiding us towards profound breakthroughs?

In some coaching circles, this is called using “self as instrument” or somatic coaching. In my world, I call it intuitive coaching because it includes listening beyond what you notice within yourself or what the client can communicate with their language and body. Intuitive coaching includes reading the energy fields of and around the client, “listening” for spirit guides, family narratives and other entities who can provide valuable information about the client’s issue.

Cultivating Your Inner Antenna

Developing your intuition takes practice and trust. To develop an intuition that is reliable and accurate, we must be continuously developing each of the following tools:

Know Thyself

Meditate, journal, seek coaching and guidance, develop your spirituality, understand your patterns (astrology can be a powerful tool), and continually work on personal transformation. We cannot be a clear channel for our clients unless we're transforming ourselves.

Authenticity in Relationships

Notice how you interact with others. Are you authentic, or do you adapt to please people? Explore the relationships and situations that trigger you. Record your sessions, get client feedback, and invest in coach supervision to understand how you show up for others.

Expand your listening

What are you listening to versus what are you listening for? Not including the voice in your head, see if you can list at least 10 things that could be listened FOR and at least 5 things you can listen TO when coaching. Active listening is not the same as intuitive listening, can you distinguish the difference?

Connect with spirit

Do you have a relationship with the divine, spirit guides, or angels? Learn to tap into their wisdom and trust their guidance for yourself and your clients.

Communicate with skill

not all clients need to know you are using your intuition, although it is a helpful thing to share. When you gather intuitive information, it is imperative that you communicate it to your client in empowering and meaningful way.

Deeper Connections, Greater Transformation

Intuitive coaching isn't about abandoning your coaching skills; it's about integrating them with a deeper and broader level of awareness.

Intuitive coaching isn't about abandoning your coaching skills; it's about integrating them with a deeper and broader level of awareness. This allows you to:

Uncover hidden blocks/stories

Sense what your client is struggling with even if they can't articulate it. Get to the “thing behind the thing” within the first 15 minutes of a session.

Guide with More Precision

Ask questions that cut to the heart of the matter, even when the path seems unclear.

Trust the unknown

Feel comfortable letting go, knowing the session will unfold as it needs to for the client, guided by your intuition. This takes some practice, but as you trust your intuitive insights you will learn to release control over all aspects of the coaching conversation.

Co-Create Breakthroughs

Collaborate with the client's own inner wisdom, empowering them to find their own answers. I promise you will be surprised at how brilliant they are.
